Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
