Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
