England's Coach Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
The bowler's most recent Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England bowling consultant Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the first Test because of his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
Commenting as England's team for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was announced, Southee said of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
England pace icon Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," he said.
"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [the English] team that's heading out to the host country is brilliant.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
But, prior to England travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
