Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his side can keep managing with injury setbacks after revealing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

Havertz has been out for months following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available sooner, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when advancing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This development leaves a selection headache for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably continue in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the £250m spend on squad depth in the last transfer window has resulted in a far better place to handle such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

Questioned if increased squad depth was benefiting their title quest, the manager agreed. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the situation with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the case of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his eagerness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”
