Seamer Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler added to England's injury problems when he left the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.

Team management stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, at the end of his spell, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
