The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
