The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any significant honors show draws close, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
