The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
