The President Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event caused the government to pause asylum processing and halt granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
