The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
