The Two Fatalities Named in Brown University Shooting as Police Press On With Manhunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who were killed in the recent violent attack on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared condolences online, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our community”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a police source told the news agency.

Police that entered the inn recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, according to reports.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was released from the hospital, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, authorities stated on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, loved ones, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about 7,300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, took place amid one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings reported in the US so far in this year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
