Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the globally famous franchise Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in the state of California aged 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company which he helped establish.

The influential game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, according to.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, his loved ones, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
