The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native former Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a unique job here at a special club. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

The coach signed a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to complete the current World Cup qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, should they fail to end up their group runners-up.

Given his current position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
